In the fall of 2016 Rebecca and Tim Tibbitts took a trip to Vienna, Austria to see the beautiful city and sample all that it has to offer in both food and wine. By chance arrangement through mutual friends, they were invited to visit the winery of 5th generation winemaker Franz Bayer. The experience was so overwhelming that immediately the Tibbitts decided that people in the Bahamas, where they are from, along with all warm climate destinations, would love the amazing fresh, crisp and clean wines that Franz was making. An agreement was made for Franz to produce a selection of wines for a new label the Tibbitts would create and Sea Gate Wines was born.
In the spring of 2017 Rebecca and Tim spent 3 weeks in Spain meeting winemakers and wineries. They loved the products being produced in Spain as well and knew they wanted to deliver these wines to their region. From this trip Sea Gate Wines became the official distributer for many Spanish labels in the Bahamas and parts of the Caribbean.
2018, 2019 and 2020 Sea Gate expanded its portfolio to include some of the world’s best wineries. Now in 2024 we continue to push forward to build the best portfolio of elite small producers for our clients. For a complete list of producers represented by Sea Gate visit Our Partners
Our long term goal is to deliver the best wines at the best prices to people throughout the Caribbean.
A fun side note: Sea Gate is the name of the street that Tim and Rebecca live on. And the colour of the labels is the same colour as their house.
